The conversion to heat recovery and efficiency increases in Stanford’s energy system catalyzed significant savings and natural gas reduction.

The university achieved its 100% renewable electricity goal in 2022 and continues to support California’s solar energy market.

The Stanford community has a goal to divert 90% or more of waste from landfill through reduction, reuse, recycling, and composting.

Domestic water use has decreased approximately 48%, even with nearly 3 million square feet of campus facilities added.
Transportation
Thanks to sustainable commute programs, the drive-alone rate decreased from 67% to an all-time low of 36% over the past 20 years.
